It couldn't have been a more beautiful day at Tappan Hill Mansion for Charlie & Leslie's New York Summer Affair Wedding. The evening was timeless and elegant celebration with non stop fun.
How We Met: Charlie and Leslie were originally setup by Leslie's former roommate, who thought they would be a perfect match. At the time, Leslie was living in Connecticut and Charlie was living in Boston but they got the chance to meet (while Leslie was in her pajamas nonetheless) and after that night, ended up doing long distance for the next 9 months until Leslie finally made the move to Boston. Charlie's proposal plan was to take Leslie out on a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Unfortunately when they got there, the winds were whipping and the ride was called off. Charlie improvised and ended up driving Leslie another 30 minutes to the NH coastline and took her out for a sunrise beach walk (they had the whole place to themselves). After a short walk, Charlie got down on one knee and popped the big question
The Wedding Day: Charlie and Leslie wanted a venue that was private and would allow them to get married where they felt like they were away from the rest of the world. The two fell in love with Tappan Hill Mansion, as it sits on top of a hill overlooking the Hudson River with nothing but natural views of the river, mountains and rolling hills and trees. The natural beauty of the estate, and the fact that every room the wedding took place in has floor to ceiling windows, the guests will experience the beauty of the outdoors while enjoying the evening. Charlie & Leslie love the history of the estate. Charlie is a big history buff and loves that it's the former home of Mark Twain. The two both love homes with character (they both grew up in historical homes) and this place has it all! Aside from the serenity and natural beauty both inside and out of the venue, they are both total foodies and appreciate great entertainment. The incredible food and band highlight the evening celebration.
The evening included details of his and hers signature cocktail (Dark 'n Stormys for him, Fountain of Youth for her) which are their favorite go-to-summer drink! Charlie was in a band for many years and surprised guests by joining the band on guitar, and the couple made sure to include some of their favorite foods as a couple such as sushi, avocado toast and chocolate chip cookie dough!
Leslie's Wedding Planning Tip: TheKnot.com was great for providing checklists and offering a beautiful free website. I would also recommend creating a spreadsheet in advance with all of the expenses you anticipate for the wedding (make sure you overestimate on everything) this way as you go along, coming in under budget will be an added bonus! It also helps to keep you organized in real time along the way.
