Intimate Barn Wedding at Hallockville Farm • Cadence Kennedy Photography

There are some weddings you fall in love with the moment you see them, and this barn wedding from Cadence Kennedy is definitely one of them. Sweet + intimate, with so many thoughtful details. Vintage trucks, hand-lettered signs and gorgeous florals. Oh, and Melissa + Tony's adorable puppy even makes an appearance (in a doggie tux!)... immediately making this wedding one of favorites!

I'm not only a photographer but an equestrian. If you knew me, you’d know how much I love horses. If I could keep mine in my backyard, I would. So when this bride first emailed me and mentioned that her wedding would take place at a barn, I think my heart skipped a beat.

Through the power of social media, Melissa had found me. Melissa & Tony’s wedding was a week after my own, but nothing was stopping me from photographing their special day. The couple was my first from Wantagh, and having them drive around the block to my office was truly an amazing feeling.

On October 18th, I made my way to Riverhead. The location, the details, the color palette, and of course the couple is what makes this collection so wonderful. Being it was a week after my own wedding, I could truly appreciate all these things Melissa had done. As she prepared to see Tony for the first time, it was like I could feel that excitement again. My favorite photograph from their collection is the embrace between the two during the first look. There is truly nothing like it.

Meet-the-Maker • Cadence Kennedy

We're so excited to introduce you one of our favorite photographers, Cadence Kennedy! Cadence is both a teacher and an incredibly talented photographer: passionate about both, and selective in the number of weddings and sessions she takes each year. We're amazed with her perspective and ability to balance it all, and adore her style and talent.

Tell us a little bit about you, and how you got started!

I have been taking photographs ever since I can remember. Practicing as a child with film and growing up with the advances in digital photography; I fell in love with the medium. I studied photography all four years of high school, through college. I majored in Art Education with a minor in Photography to become an Art teacher. After graduating, while searching for a teaching job, my Grandmother passed away and I inherited her box of black and white family photographs. I looked to photographing others to help cope with the loss. I couldn’t help but want to give someone that same gift of memories. People then began to inquire about portraits. Next, to my surprise, weddings, and so I started my business. I then landed a full time teaching job at one of the best schools in New York. I couldn't deny my love for both careers, so now I stay active in my artistic practice by photographing those we love, in the sincerest way possible, while also keeping a full time art teaching job.

What services do you offer and/or what do you specialize in?

I offer lifestyle and wedding photography. Specifically capturing real life, intimate moments which exude timelessness.

What makes your business unique?

What makes my business so unique is that I take pride in having only an exclusive number of clients per year. Like I mentioned above, I am a photographer and middle school art teacher. During the week I stay creativity inspired by my students. Weekends are filled with photography sessions, weddings and editing. I am an artist and want to give my clients a masterful, fine art product. I currently shoot 2-3 sessions per month and 12 weddings a year.

What is your favorite part of working with couples?

I love photographing engagement sessions. During this session, it is the first time I see my couples truly interact. Sometimes, it might even be the first time I even meet them in person. Engagement sessions allow me to see how he gazes at her, or how she reaches for his hand when she needs comfort. Getting to know my client, learning their body language, and understanding their mannerisms help me to better capture them on their wedding day, staying true to telling their love story in all it's artistic form.

One piece of advice for couples?

Stay true to yourself rather than following trends when planning your wedding. Instead of looking at what people are doing right now, look back at what was done before and never left. A viel, loose pin curls, a tux and bow tie, letter pressed invitations in simple script... This is what makes wedding imagery classic, timeless and everlasting. I was married to my hubby almost two years ago, stuck with this theme, and I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Sophisticated Fall Montauk Wedding • Cadence Kennedy

Sophisticated and timeless will never go out of style, and this gorgeous fall wedding from Cadence Kennedy is certainly no exception. Jenna and George's wedding day is the epitome of graceful elegance, and their genuine love is evident in every photo. George's classic tux, Jenna's timeless dress, their adorable first look... all of it so sweet and intimate. We adore everything about this wedding day, and know you will too!

From Cadence: "The End" can truly be the beginning for some. Jenna and George said 'I do' out on the East End of Long Island in Montauk. The two had the most beautiful Fall day, filled with warm and golden Autumn light, and a soft ocean breeze. Jenna and George's wedding was classic and elegant. Black and white tones were just meant for these images, especially those intimate bridal portraits between Mother and Daughter. Jenna and George's back to back first look under the willow tree is still one of my favorites to date. As they turned around too look at each other, you can just see the sincere and genuine love they have for one another. By the end of the wedding, even though the sun began to set, love continued to radiate off these images. It was truly the magic of Montauk.

Timeless NYC Engagement Session • Cadence Kennedy

When you imagine what an engagement session looks like in New York City, you might think bright lights and busy streets... people hustling by, rushing from one place to another. But then you see this incredible session from Cadence Kennedy, and you'll have a completely different opinion on a session in the city. From their cozy apartment to the streets of the West Village and the Met, it's almost like time stood still for Nicole and John. See all the beautiful pictures below, and be prepared to reimagine romance in the city.

From Cadence: When I think about the perfect New York City engagement session, I think timeless and classic imagery that will withstand the test of time. Rich black and white romantic images, but still with soft light and airy moments, exemplifying the diversity and uniqueness of this amazing place. Nicole and John are beautiful couple brought together by this city. We started this session with a cozy feel in the their apartment. Nicole snuggled up on the couch, while John played her favorite songs on the guitar. Next it was to the streets of the West Village and outside their doorstep. Nicole looked stunning in her Halston dress. There in the city streets, you can see how John just adored her. To finish this session we headed to the quintessential location, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. From the steps of the Met to the rooftop, this was the perfect day in the big apple.
