If I could name one thing that makes my heart swell when I think about this little blog and how far we've come the last two years, it's that we've welcomed every and any type of wedding you can have in the tri-state area, and somehow, they all fit. Our favorite saying here is "you do you", and this bold winter micro-wedding from the talented team from Nina Lily Photography is proof that no matter what your story, how how you choose to say "I do", it's all beautiful. Katherine and Ross (from the band Summer Scouts) chose HollyHedge Estate as the backdrop to their intimate wedding, and it couldn't be more gorgeous. Bold floral design, two incredibly gorgeous gowns, heirloom jewelry and of course, music as the cornerstone to the entire day.Read More
We use the word "favorite" around here pretty often, usually describing a specific type of wedding or details we love. But we mean it when we say that our absolute favorite, is when "you do you", and today, that is this incredible city hall wedding from Olivia Christina Photography. Kate and TJ are artists who wanted nothing more than a wedding day that truly represented everything they loved. With their family and friends present to celebrate with them, not even a little rain could dampen the joy and love on Kate and TJ's wedding day.
From Olivia: Kate and TJ are the type of people who's personalities shine through everything they do. From their jobs both in art fields, to their eclectic Jersey City apartment, and Kate's vibrant hair, they never shy away from who they really are. So when it came time for them to plan their wedding, they kept the things that were most important and personal to them at the forefront of their day; family, friends, and each other.
They planned for a small city hall wedding with their two best friends as witnesses and then to meet up with their families at Liberty State park nearby, but the weather had different plans for us. Hurricane Joaquin hit with full force the morning of their wedding but luckily for me, Kate and TJ were cool as cucumbers and decided on the next best option: to hit the bar across the street for some post-wedding beer and french fries! When the rain finally eased up a bit, we were able to quickly head to a nearby park to take family portraits before Ubering back to the couples apartment to dry off.
Later in the evening I headed down to Raval in Jersey for their reception where Kate's creative talents were on full display. Each table was set with handwritten place cards as well as DIY painted vases and flowers. Pictures of the couple were displayed in a heart shape on one wall across from a hand drawn mural created for the restaurant by one of Kate and TJ's close friends and gold glittery streamers became a backdrop for people to use the handmade photo booth props. Guests mingled around the bar and dined on tapas until late in the evening and when Kate and TJ made their entrance, the room exploded into smiles and applause.
Back to reality after a glorious long weekend, and this lovely fall wedding from Audra Wrisley is making the transition a whole lot easier. From the hand-folded origami flowers and the tea cup succulent favors, to the bride's vintage-inspired dress... everything about Jean + Wyatt's wedding day is absolute perfection.
From Audra: Jean and Wyatt’s pink and mint backyard wedding in Pittsburgh was a dream, and I loved every minute of photographing my sweet friends’ wedding day! Full of hand-crafted details from start to finish, Jean’s amazing eye for design and color made for a stunning backdrop for their September wedding. Centered around a palette of pink and mint, a few of my favorite details were Jean’s hand folded origami flowers to decorate the ceremony tent, the moss-filled ring box, and the vintage tea cup succulent terrariums they provided for guests to take a little piece of the day home with them. Jean and Wyatt said their vows under a salvaged victorian door repurposed for a ceremony arch, with the help of the Bride’s father. Following the luncheon at Lemont overlooking the city, we were able to take one final stop at PPG Place’s Wintergarden to do some portraits in its gorgeous greenhouse. I can’t imagine a better way to conclude such an amazing wedding day! Congratulations!
