Tell us a little bit about you, and how you got started! Well, it all started with my own wedding. I was constantly searching for something different and unique, and I wasn’t having much luck. I finally decided I could do this on my own and make something amazing, and I did! I had grown up with education in art and had the experience, now it was finally time for me to use it. Since doing my own wedding, it was word of mouth and I started getting requests. I then realized I could make a business out of this. Fast forward five years, I am now a preferred vendor for Red Oak Weddings!
What do you specialize in? I offer invitation design, branding, illustrations, and event design & decor.
What makes your business unique? I always strive to be different in my business, it’s my biggest goal daily. I don’t want my brides to have the usual and I want them to be extraordinary. I think what makes House of Catherine different is the variety of styles we convey, I also am not limited to just paper when creating wedding details. We can create invitations and day-of goods on any surface: acrylics, vellum, wood, leaves, ceramics, leather, tiles and more. I think daily on what else I can draw or print upon. We also incorporate unique elements into invitations, such as large gold paper clips, vintage silver clasps, suede ties, leather envelopes, gold brads, greenery elements, and anything we can think of that could go along with your wedding inspiration. I am also not limited to just the unique elements, I love creating traditional pieces also with gold foils and letterpress, and luxurious fonts. I think everything I stand for and love is what sets House of Catherine apart.
What is your favorite part of working with couples? My favorite part of working with couples is getting to know them initially. I love seeing them interact with each other and seeing their love for each other. I also love being able to completely get their vibe and style just from the first meeting. I think they are truly amazed when I’m able to plan out their entire wedding design within the first get together, and I love seeing their reactions.
One piece of advice for couples? Don’t sweat the small stuff and just enjoy the process. No one else’s opinion matters except for yourself, your future spouse and your mother.
Childhood career aspiration? I wanted to be a teacher, but that was because I loved paper so much. I felt like I knew I had to work with paper one day and I finally found my calling. It is a true joy everyday.
Coffee or tea? It depends on the mood, but I generally do not need caffeine to get me going in the morning. I think I’m like the only person on this planet, but that might be a good thing!
Hidden talent? I personally think I can sing. My mom might laugh hysterically reading this, since she had to endure Titanic renditions in the shower growing up. However, I enjoy it and I can only sing in front of my kids.
