Tell us a little bit about you, and how you got started!: I got married in the summer of 2015, and had so much trouble finding the type of hair accessories I wanted! Everything was either insanely expensive, too hippie-bohemian, or too traditional looking. I wanted to look a little boho, but still feel glamorous and have a little bit of sparkle and modern edginess. I’d been working as a soft accessories design in the fashion industry for 8 years designing hats, scarves and gloves, and I’ve always been pretty crafty, so I decided to try to make the specific vision I had in my head. It turned out so well that even the sales girl at my bridal gown salon thought I had bought it there! I knew that if I was happy with the result, and she was impressed by it, that there were probably other brides out there looking for similar items for their weddings. I had always wanted to start my own business, and with my experience in the fashion industry behind me, I knew this was the right time for me to do it!
What services do you offer and/or what do you specialize in?: I specialize in bridal hair accessories and veils. I have a full line to choose from, and also offer custom design options. My specialty is definitely in halos – the design I created for my wedding was a halo, and I realized what a great alternative it was to those uncomfortable headbands that pinch behind the ears! They look great from all angles, including the back, and are sized to order so that each one fits perfectly.
What makes your business unique?: My #1 priority in all of my pieces is comfort. I am very particular when it comes to comfort, so I make sure that every single one of my pieces has the capability to fit each customer perfectly and is secure and comfortable. This is also why I love my halo silhouette so much. In addition, most of my pieces are flexible, and therefore can be bent or shaped to better suit the wearer. This gives them the ability to look very delicate, which is definitely my signature, but they are ultimately very sturdy and durable.
What is your favorite part of working with couples?: I absolutely love the infectious joy that comes out of working with brides! They are always so excited about the process, and the smile that lights up their face when they decide one of my pieces has to be a part of their day is truly priceless. I also love seeing such supportive grooms – all of the ones I’ve worked with are so patient and just want their future wives to be happy and feel beautiful on that day. I love participating in that dynamic!
One piece of advice for couples?: There are many things you will not remember looking back on your wedding day – those hand-written place cards you drove yourself crazy making the week before, the awkward tension with your mother-in-law over the tiniest details, the food being a little bland. What you will remember from that day are the intimate moments between the two of you and the photos that capture them. Make sure to take the time after the ceremony to be completely alone, even just for 10 minutes, and savor the moment together! And always splurge on the photographer – these are truly the best souvenirs you will cherish from that day. Relating back to my designs: I always point out how beautiful hair accessories look in photos, as they truly put the focus on your face. It’s good to have something sparkly for the camera to capture, especially during dancing!
Childhood career aspiration?: I’ve been sewing since the age of 6, so I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer, but never knew I wanted to work specifically in the wedding industry. I have to say, I’ve discovered a new love working with metals and jewels!
Coffee or tea?: Coffee – currently loving Stumptown Cold Brew with Coconut Milk! There’s nothing like cold coffee in the summertime in New York city!
Hidden talent?: Catching things. My husband is constantly throwing things across the room to me – keys, the remote, a banana, and I catch them with one hand every time! I never miss. I guess I must have good hand-eye coordination, which is ironic because I was very un-athletic growing up!
