It's that time friends! Today we're thrilled to introduce you to Ashley B, our newest Blogger Bride for Red Oak Weddings! Ashley and Ben are high school sweethearts, with a love story that has survived long distance and the test of time, and this spring they'll get to say "I Do" surrounded by the people they love the most. Over the next few months, Ashley will be sharing advice, tips and inspiration, and of course, their beautiful wedding!
From Ashley: Countless romances have gotten their start at the movies, whether on the silver screen or as the location of a first date. Ben and my romance also began at the movies, but not in one of these ways. No, Ben and I met as employees of our local movie theater, where we both happened to work part-time in high school. I still remember the first time I met him, each of us in our maroon uniforms in late Fall of 2007. I was taking a break from selling movie tickets in the box office, chatting with Ben’s older brother Joe, who also worked at the theater. Ben came running down the ramp from the theaters, with his trash caddy in hand. How glamorous...
Over the coming months, we got to know each other better at work and school until we finally went on our first “date” to a diner in Cherry Hill, New Jersey at 6am on December 31st after staying up talking on the computer the whole night prior. Fast forward about a month later to the Super Bowl. Ben and I were the only two employees working (who goes to the movies during the Super Bowl?!), other than our managers. It was this night, when Ben drew on a Hannah Montana cardboard cutout and I didn’t rat him out when questioned by our manager, that he knew I was his “ride or die” girl.
After spending the next five years in a long distance relationship as we each attended college, we returned to the Philadelphia area where we settled into life post college. Knowing that we each had things we wanted to accomplish professionally before getting engaged, we continued to date through our first several years out of school. We chose to plan a trip to Germany and Austria to celebrate me attaining my CFA charter and Ben completing his master degree in the Spring of 2016. I had no expectations of an engagement on the trip, given that we hadn’t discussed rings or any other wedding details. However, Ben had other plans. We spent the first few days of our trip exploring the fairytale towns and castles of Germany. On the fourth day, Ben proposed on a hill overlooking a German palace in the countryside. We celebrated that night with steins of beer at the Hofbrauhaus and continued to celebrate throughout the rest of our time in Europe.
We returned home and chose to just enjoy the engagement and our Summers before diving into wedding planning. We honestly didn’t have much already in mind for our big day other than we knew we wanted to have a fun, intimate celebration with our friends and family in our city. We chose to have a long engagement (we will have been engaged for just under 2 years by the time our wedding day rolls around) and it has been the best decision for us. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being able to take our time making decisions about the wedding, and focusing on one thing at a time. Our “best day ever” is now less than six months away and I can now say firsthand that time truly does fly! We can’t wait to get married in April 2018 and look forward to sharing our story and the tips we’ve learned along the way with you!
